Surface Treatment is the application of bitumen emulsion followed by a single application of cover aggregate, placed on either an existing hard top or a graded, compacted granular surface. This restoration process can either be applied via a single lift of surface treatment or multiple lifts of surface treatment depending on the application. The emulsion and aggregate are project-specific and can be modified to meet your application requirements. As an added benefit, surface treatments are inexpensive in comparison to asphalt paving, while yielding similar results.
Surface treatment is commonly used on intermediate collector roads servicing small towns and villages, recreational or resource areas. Many municipalities utilize surface treatment on rural collector or local collector undivided roads.
- On a granular road, surface treatments provide a frictional resistance, improve ride quality, reduce dust, reduce stone pickup, and ultimately controls the infiltration of water
- Surface Treatment applied to an existing hardtop also helps improve skid resistance and reduce the infiltration of water which increases the lifespan of the existing hard top
Along with Surface Treatment, we also offer fog seal and chip seal:
Fog Seal, also known as bonding coat over stone, is the application of low viscosity, slow to medium setting emulsified asphalt, which seals the pavement surface, controls water infiltration and controls oxidation. Typically, fog seal will have a smaller cover aggregate placed and compacted onto the emulsified asphalt to help increase frictional resistance and reduce dust. Generally, the application of fog seal is applied to freshly surface treated road.
Chip Seal is a single application of bituminous binder followed by a single application of uniformly graded aggregate.
